1 week — 9 events — 20 classroom visits — 1500 Rhode Islanders
The first-ever Brain Week RI included a full calendar of activities: nine events ranging in topic and style, and 20 classroom visits by neuroscientists. In total, over 1500 Rhode Islanders participated, and Brain Week RI received a great deal of local media attention—print, radio, and TV.
Representative Eileen Naughton introduced a resolution to the RI General Assembly making March 12-19 officially the “first annual Brain Week Rhode Island.” This was followed by a companion resolution in the RI Senate, introduced by Senator Donna Nesselbush. Brain Week RI 2016 was a tremendous success! As an annual event, Brain Week RI will be a vibrant, inclusive, and educational event with many goals and benefits:
- Providing education and awareness about the brain and brain health
- Showcasing the world-class research happening in Rhode Island
- Introducing K-12 students to neuroscience
- Bringing together different Rhode Island communities (science, the arts, service providers) to enrich the work and the outreach of all involved
