Join us for a free screening of “Infinitely Polar Bear” (2014), a film about a bipolar individual (Mark Ruffalo) who takes over sole responsibility for his two spirited daughters while his wife (Zoe Saldana) attends graduate school in New York. The film has been hailed by many critics as a “more-accurate-than-usual” portrayal of bipolar disorder, which is contrary to the typical romanticized or exaggerated depictions that tend to exacerbate stigmas surrounding mental illness. And it was filmed in Rhode Island!
Following the movie, we will engage in an audience-driven discussion. We will speak briefly about the pathology of bipolar disease and will then explore themes present in the film, for example, the effects of mental illness on patient interactions with family and friends.
Snacks will be provided!
